Nissan radio code from the serial and unit number
A Nissan radio code can't be worked out from the serial; it only exists in Nissan's own database, so it isn't free anywhere. FreeCarRadioCodes buys it in for you: a small charge, and the code is usually in your inbox within a couple of hours, 24 at most.
Where the serial is
Every Nissan radio has a label on its casing, so the unit has to come out of the dash. Nissan Connect (the Bosch LCN unit) shows a 7-digit serial on the screen while it is locked, and the label carries a unit number that looks like 7 612 830 076: we need both, so type the serial in the first box and the unit number in the second. Daewoo-made units have a serial starting DW or DS on the label with a 28185 unit number next to it, and again we need both. Older Clarion units carry the serial after PN or PP. Blaupunkt-made units have a BP serial.
What happens next

How to enter the code
- 1Turn the ignition on and switch the radio on. The screen shows CODE, or a keypad on Nissan Connect.
- 2Type the four digits with the on-screen keypad. On Clarion units press preset 1 to set the first digit, 2 for the second, and so on.
- 3Check the four digits, then press OK or ENTER. The radio comes on straight away if the code is right.
- 4If the screen says WAIT or LOCKED, leave the radio on with the ignition running for an hour, then try again.

Is a Nissan radio code free?
No, and not from anyone. It only exists in Nissan's database, so it can't be worked out from the serial. We buy it in, so there's a small fee, and you see the full price before paying.
Is there a Nissan radio code generator?
Not a real one. Nissan codes aren't calculated from the serial, so any page promising a generator is guessing. The only source is Nissan's database, which is where ours come from.
What is the unit number and why do you need it?
It's the part number printed on the label next to the serial: 7 612 followed by six digits on Nissan Connect, or 28185 followed by four or five characters on Daewoo units. Nissan's database is indexed by both numbers, so we can't look the code up without it.
My Nissan says LOCKED. Is the code still the same?
LOCKED means too many wrong tries, not a new code. Leave the ignition on for about an hour, the screen goes back to CODE, and the same code goes in.
Is the code the same for a second-hand Nissan radio?
Yes. The code belongs to the radio, not the car, so a unit from a breaker or eBay is looked up from its own label in exactly the same way.
