Free BMW radio code, worked out in 24 hours

Where the serial is
Most BMW radios carry the serial on a label on the casing, so the unit has to come out. Business and Professional CD units usually have a BP serial (Blaupunkt-made) or a BE serial (Becker-made). Philips units such as the PH7850 start PH, and Alpine units start AL. A few older radios show a short 6 to 8 digit number on the screen when they ask for the code. That number is the serial, and it's the one to send.
What happens next
We check the serial shape at once, then the request goes to our decoding desk rather than the automatic system, because BMW codes need a person to work them out. You choose free or $5, but either way the code is emailed within 24 hours from [email protected] with the entry steps.

How to enter the code
- 1Switch the ignition on and the radio on. The screen shows CODE.
- 2Type the four digits with the numbered preset buttons.
- 3Confirm with the m button, or on Professional units with the OK or ENTER button. The radio plays straight away if the code is right.
- 4Three wrong tries and the radio makes you wait. Leave it switched on for an hour, then CODE comes back and you can try again.
BMW radio code questions
Is a BMW radio code free?
Yes. We work it out from the serial and email it free in 24 hours. The $5 option is there too, but for BMW the decoding desk sets the pace, so expect the same day either way.
Why does a BMW code take 24 hours even if I pay?
Because there is no automatic calculation for BMW units. A person on our decoding desk works each one out from the serial, and that desk runs on a 24-hour promise.
My BMW radio shows a number instead of CODE. Is that the serial?
Yes. Some older Business units show a 6 to 8 digit number on the screen when locked. Send that number and skip pulling the radio out.
Can the code come from the car's VIN?
Not from us. BMW codes are tied to the radio serial, not the car. A dealer can look up the radio the car left the factory with, but that won't help if the unit has ever been swapped.
I fitted a second-hand BMW radio. Same process?
Yes. The code belongs to the radio, so read the serial off its label, send it in, and the desk works from that. Where the radio came from makes no difference.
