Honda CR-V radio code from the serial
A Honda CR-V radio code comes from the serial, which most CR-V radios show on the screen when you hold presets 1 and 6. It can't be calculated instantly, so our Honda desk decodes it for a small charge and emails it within 24 hours, usually much sooner.
Honda CR-V
Most CR-Vs have a Honda unit made by Panasonic, Alpine or Pioneer, and they lock the same way. With the ignition on and CODE showing, hold presets 1 and 6 and the serial appears, sometimes as a U half and an L half. Early CR-Vs keep the serial on a label on the casing. Either serial goes to our Honda desk, and the code is emailed within 24 hours.

Where the serial is
Turn the ignition on and switch the radio on, so the display shows CODE. Now hold down presets 1 and 6 at the same time. After a few seconds the screen shows the serial, sometimes split across two screens with a U and an L part. Older radios don't do this trick, so the serial is on a label on the side of the unit or on a sticker in the glovebox.
How to enter the code
- 1Turn the radio on; the display shows CODE.
- 2Type the five digits using presets 1 to 6, one press per digit.
- 3The radio unlocks as soon as the last digit goes in.
- 4If it shows ERR E, switch the ignition off for an hour and try once more.
Honda CR-V · Questions people ask
Where is the serial on an early CR-V radio?
On a label on the casing, so the unit has to come out. Look for Serial No. and a run of letters and digits. Later CR-Vs show it on screen when you hold 1 and 6.
My CR-V radio says ERR after a few tries. What now?
Ten wrong tries lock it. Switch the ignition off, leave it a while, then switch on again and CODE returns. Enter the right code and it plays.
Is a CR-V radio code free?
No. Honda codes can't be calculated from the serial the way Ford or Renault codes can, so ours is a small charge, decoded by our Honda desk and emailed within 24 hours, usually much sooner.
