Most Meganes have a Renault unit made by Philips or Continental, the Update List, Tuner List, Radiosat or Carminat, and later ones the R-Link or Radio Connect. The label on the casing shows a precode of one letter and three digits, or a part number starting 8200 or 2811 that ends in the precode. The VIN works for an original radio, and VIN lookups are instant.

Where the serial is
The easiest route is the VIN: 17 characters starting VF1, on the label in the driver's door pillar, on the plate at the bottom of the windscreen, or on the V5C. Type it and we look up the code for the radio the car left the factory with. If the radio has been changed, use the precode instead: pull the radio out and read the label on its casing, where the precode is the letter and three digits after the word SECURITY, or type the whole barcode number below it.
How to enter the code
- 1Turn the radio on; the display shows CODE or 0000.
- 2Press preset 1 until the first digit is right, then 2, 3 and 4 for the others.
- 3Press and hold preset 6 until the radio beeps or the display changes.
- 4If it refuses, switch off, wait a minute and enter it again slowly.

Does a Megane with sat nav need a code?
The Carminat units usually do, and the code comes from the precode on the label just like the plain radio. The later R-Link locks to the car instead and rarely asks.
Where is the precode on a Megane radio?
On the label on the casing, so the unit has to come out. It is one letter and three digits, sometimes at the end of a longer 8200 part number.
What if the Megane radio says PRE and a number?
